POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Executive Director is responsible for implementing the strategic plan and overseeing the administration of the Chariot organization.  The Executive Director is the brand ambassador, providing leadership, vision and direction to Chariot’s staff, leading organizational development, strategic planning, optimizing financial performance, overseeing program delivery and building and cultivating donor relationships.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

●      Provide executive leadership for the organization

●      Partner with the Board of Directors in developing strategic plans and objectives

●      Meet or exceed annual financial and programmatic goals approved by the Board of Directors

●      Administer policies, procedures and processes for efficient and effective operation

●      Create, monitor, report on and execute action plans to reach the strategic priorities and milestones set by the Board of Directors

●      Establish and maintain strong relationships with donors, grantors, employees, volunteers, board members, corporate sponsors and community partners

●      Maintain membership and actively participate in organizations that help promote service to seniors

●      Ensure development and approval of annual marketing and outreach plans

●      Advance the organization’s reputation through clear and consistent messaging

related to program, outreach and branding

Provide financial, fundraising, policy and programmatic reports to the Board of

Directors and committees

FUND DEVELOPMENT:

●      Ensure development, execution and approval of an annual fund development plan

●      Ensure effective stewardship and acknowledgement of donor gifts

●      Support donor cultivation and retention through grants, events, donor campaigns and corporate sponsors

●      Ensure compliance, reporting and relationships with Chariot grantors

●      Support the Development Manager in all fundraising activities

BOARD ENGAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP:

●      Advance Chariot’s reputation through clear and consistent messaging related to  program, outreach and branding

●      Execute a clear strategic direction through engagement with the Board of Directors

●      Create and execute action plans to reach the strategic priorities and milestones set by the Board of Directors

●      Monitor and report progress on strategic initiatives, growth plans, financials, budgets, fund development plan, marketing and outreach plan and program operations

●      Assist in recruiting and maintaining board membership

●      Participate in board committees as appropriate

●      Initiate and assist in developing policy and procedure recommendations

●      Inform the board of health of and risks to the organization

●      Ensure secure access to files, property and reports

PROGRAMMING OPERATIONS:

●      Identify, recruit and maintain a strong, engaged volunteer base

●      Provide support and leadership to the Program Operations Manager

●      Assist with resolving issues and escalations of program operations

●      Ensure program operations are in line with strategic initiatives and growth plans

HUMAN RESOURCES:

●      Recruit, on-board, retain and off board employees

●      Ensure that job descriptions are established and maintained for all roles

●      Ensure that staff is adequately trained

●      Identify opportunities for staff advancement

●      Hold staff accountable for performance according to their job description

●      Establish an annual performance evaluation process

●      Evaluation and develop a compensation and employee benefits plan to enhance and retain staff

FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION:

●      Oversee fiscal management of Chariot in conjunction with the Finance Manager, Finance Committee and Board Treasurer, i.e., planning, budgeting, cost management, risk management, tax reporting, etc.

●      Develop and monitor monthly financial reports, approve expenditures and ensure proper fiscal records keeping, internal and tax reporting

●      Ensure that the organization has adequate financial resources

●      Administer policies, procedures and processes for efficient and effective operation

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

●      Knowledge of effective nonprofit management including financial management and budgeting

●      Knowledge of team building techniques

●      Knowledge of logistics principles

●      Knowledge of establishing and maturing fund development, marketing and communications strategies

●      Knowledge of human resources practices

●      Knowledge and utilization of software applications, including Salesforce, MailChimp, ride scheduling, Microsoft products, etc.

●      Knowledge of trends and community issues in the non-profit sector

●      Knowledge of donor development and cultivation

●      Skilled in continuous improvement techniques

●      Skilled in grant writing

●      Skilled in negotiation techniques

●      Skilled in fundraising techniques

●      Ability to conceptualize, initiate, implement and execute programs in-line with Chariot’s mission and strategic direction

●      Ability to grow volunteer based programming, services and resources

●      Ability to identify areas for improvement and prioritize solutions

●      Ability to motivate others

●      Ability to multitask

●      Ability to delegate effectively

●      Ability to effectively communicate verbally and written

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Eight to ten years professional experience

Three to five years’ executive director or non-profit staff leadership experience

Bachelor’s Degree (preferred, but not required, in Business, Non-Profit Management or Social Services)

At this time, the position is remote.   In person meetings or events will be held throughout our service area.
