What Nonprofits Need to Know About the July 2025 Postal Rate Increase

Credit: Summer Gould, NonProfitPro, June 2, 2025

The U.S. Postal Service has announced a new round of postage increases, set to take effect on July 13, 2025. While rising rates can be cause for concern, the good news is that nonprofits still receive some of the deepest postage discounts available, and direct mail can outperform other fundraising channels when done right.

Here’s what the upcoming changes mean for your organization — and how you can keep your direct mail program both effective and affordable.

USPS 2025 Nonprofit Postage Rates
Nonprofit Marketing Mail rates remain significantly discounted. By regulation, they must average no more than 60% of the equivalent commercial rates. Here are some key nonprofit rates, effective July 13, 2025:

  • Automation letters – sorted by five-digit ZIP code with entry at destination sectional center facility – will be $0.162 per piece.
  • Automation flats – sorted by five-digit, entry at destination sectional center facility – will be $0.465 per piece.
  • Carrier Route flats – with entry at destination delivery unit – will be $0.366 per piece.
  • Saturation flats – with entry at destination delivery unit – will be $0.132 per piece.

If you’re mailing to a highly targeted donor list and preparing your mail to USPS specifications, these rates can help stretch your campaign dollars further.

Certificate in Measuring Social Impact & Effective Storytelling

The Certificate in Measuring Social Impact and Effective Storytelling helps participants reorient their focus from measurement as a compliance activity or “thumbs up, thumbs down” assessment of effectiveness to evaluation as the foundation for organizational learning and program improvement. An ongoing commitment to measurement allows nonprofits to determine what works and what doesn’t so they can improve services over time. Rather than being a task that is entirely outsourced to consultants, evaluation should be embedded into the culture and operations of a healthy nonprofit. The entire team plays a role from the Executive Director to the Communications Director and frontline staff.

This course provides a practical toolkit for conducting evaluation to drive social impact. Students will explore how to take the findings from evaluation and use them to inform program improvement cycles.

At the completion of the Certificate, participants will have an enhanced understanding of the importance of measuring and communicating their organization’s social impact. In addition, each participant will complete an evaluation project that utilizes many of the concepts presented. The evaluation project will be selected by the student and completed largely during class time with support from peers and the instructor. It will give the student the opportunity to practice evaluation-related skills including creating or updating a theory of change, developing an evaluation plan, creating data collection protocols, analyzing data, visualizing findings, and communicating positive and negative results.

Early Bird is $1250 and is available through Friday, August 1, 2025.
